- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate chips or holiday sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips or holiday sprinkles if using.
- Shape the dough into logs and wrap tightly in plastic wrap. Refrigerate until firm, about 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the chilled logs into 1/4 inch thick rounds and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For best results, ensure butter is at room temperature and don’t skip chilling time. Try adding spices or nuts for extra flavor.
