Description
A simple and rewarding recipe for making your own sandwich bread at home, perfect for all types of sandwiches and toasts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
- Add the flour, salt, and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms, ensuring the flour incorporates evenly.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 8-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover the loaf with a towel and let it rise again for 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while the dough finishes rising.
- Bake the loaf for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- Once baked, remove the loaf from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
Store the bread in a breadbox or a plastic bag at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. For longer storage, wrap the loaf tightly in plastic wrap and freeze it.
