Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 3 large bananas, peeled and sliced into rounds
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup raspberries or blackberries
  • 5 cups fresh baby spinach (optional, for a green boost)
  • 5 tablespoons chia seeds or flax seeds (optional)
  • Freezer-safe quart-sized bags or reusable silicone bags

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Wash and Prepare the Fruit. Thoroughly wash the strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Pat them dry with a paper towel to prevent excess ice crystals from forming. Hull the strawberries and cut them in half. Peel the bananas and slice them into half-inch rounds.
  2. Step 2: Portion the Ingredients. Set out five freezer-safe bags. In each bag, place an equal portion of the strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and banana slices. If you are using spinach, add one cup of loosely packed leaves to each bag on top of the fruit.
  3. Step 3: Add Boosters. If you want extra fiber or healthy fats, add one tablespoon of chia seeds or ground flax seeds to each bag. This step is optional but highly recommended for a more filling smoothie.
  4. Step 4: Seal and Remove Air. Press as much air as possible out of the bags before sealing them tightly. Removing the air helps prevent freezer burn and keeps the fruit tasting fresh for longer. Lay the bags flat to save space in your freezer.
  5. Step 5: Label and Freeze. Use a permanent marker to label each bag with the date and the amount of liquid you need to add later. Place the bags in the freezer in a single layer until they are frozen solid.
  6. Step 6: Blend When Ready. When you are ready to eat, pour the contents of one bag into your blender. Add 1 to 1.5 cups of your preferred liquid (milk, almond milk, coconut water, or juice). Blend until smooth and enjoy immediately.
