Description
A delightful French dessert, this upside-down caramelized apple tart combines rich puff pastry and sweet apples in a luxurious setting.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Braeburn)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 sheet of puff pastry
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Peel, core, and cut the apples in half, making sure to remove the seeds.
- In a skillet, combine the sugar and butter over medium heat, stirring until it melts and turns into golden caramel.
- Add the apples to the skillet, cut side down, and cook for about 15 minutes to soften while soaking up the caramel flavor.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Cover the apples with puff pastry, tucking the edges down. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before inverting onto a serving plate.
Notes
Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. For added flavor, consider sprinkling with cinnamon or nutmeg.
