Description

A festive dessert with the aromatic flavor of fresh oranges, perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for syrup)
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (for syrup)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the orange juice and zest.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add it to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. For the syrup, combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup orange juice in a saucepan over medium heat until dissolved. Poke holes in the baked cake and pour the warm syrup over it. Allow it to soak for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally topped with whipped cream.
