- 2 large onions
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Start by slicing the onions into 1/4-inch rings and gently separate them.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Dip the onion rings first into the flour mixture, then immerse them in the buttermilk, and finally roll each in the breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 375°F (190°C). Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove fried rings with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
For extra crunch, double dip the onion rings after the buttermilk coating. Feel free to experiment with spices to customize flavor.
