Description

Aromatic Beef Giouvetsi combines tender beef and orzo pasta in a rich, flavorful sauce, embodying the heart of Greek comfort food.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs beef, cut into chunks
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated cheese for topping
  • Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat some oil in a large pot over medium heat and brown the beef chunks.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is translucent.
  3. Stir in the diced tomatoes, beef broth, cinnamon, allspice, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for about 90 minutes or until the beef is tender.
  5. Add the orzo pasta and cook for another 10-12 minutes until the pasta is al dente.
  6. Serve topped with grated cheese and chopped parsley.

Notes

For enhanced flavor, marinate beef with spices and lemon juice ahead of time. Substitute orzo with other small pasta or quinoa for a gluten-free option.
